Tomato cultivation, both for industrial and market purposes, requires a high degree of specialisation on the part of the grower/producer. The investment involved in the crop forces the grower/producer to use the best technologies, whereas they cannot afford to make mistakes.

One of the factors that has the greatest impact on production is fertilisation, with NPK fertilisation being the most important. The demands of the crop require the incorporation of all nutrients to obtain high yields.

Apical necrosis or blossom end rot

One of the most widespread physiopathologies in tomato cultivation is the so-called "blossom end rot". This physiopathology is due to a lack of calcium assimilation.

Calcium may be very abundant in the soil, but not in plant-available forms. Calcium bound to stable and high-quality organic matter ensures the early availability of this element throughout the cycle.

Fertilisation cases

In tomato cultivation, we set ourselves the following goals:

  • Vigorous onset: In tomato cultivation, a fast and vigorous start of the crop is required. Therefore, an early application of nitrate is recommended.
  • Homogeneous growth: It is important that growth is even in the early stages. A crucial factor is the availability of all #microelements. Thus, INPROG incorporates #FRpower technology in its products.
  • End of cycle: To obtain good yields in tomato crops, it is necessary for the plant to vegetate until the end of the crop. Thus, the plant achieves larger yields thanks to the fact that the fruit receives sugars and nutrients until harvest. This is achieved thanks to the incorporation of #FRpower, #microelements and our organic nitrogen.

General nutritional deficiencies

In tomato cultivation, three elements quickly limit the crop’s yield and quality.


This nutrient is very necessary to avoid physiopathologies such as "blossom end rot". The initial supply of calcium in FORTEC-FR products achieves a significant reduction of this problem.


Low sulphur content in the soil leads to a lower chlorophyll content, which in turn reduces yields.


The tomato crop is highly sensitive to Zn deficiency, while showing deficiencies only in severe cases. Zinc deficiency reduces the crop’s yield potential. An early supply prevents possible damage.

In the particular case of tomato cultivation, we have observed that after preventive treatment of fusarium wilt the number of cases of serious damage has decreased comparatively.

  • Microbiological reality: The lack of biological competence (beneficial microorganisms) increases crop diseases, whereas INPROG products incorporate a large number of beneficial microorganisms thanks to #biomix, hence significantly reducing fungal and bacterial infections.
  • Physicochemical reason: The lack of #microelements and essential elements decrease the plants’ natural defences. Through #FRpower we are able to provide and supply the plant with all the necessary nutrients to keep the secondary metabolism active, which stimulates the plant’s natural defences.

Prevention of nutritional deficiencies

In most cases, nutritional deficiencies become visible when the damage is severe. Prior to this, the crop has already undergone stress, which has an impact on the yield. It is very important that the most scarce or least available nutrients are always available from the onset of the vegetative cycle.

In the case of tomatoes, these minerals are as follows:

  • Calcium
  • Potassium

  • Zinc
  • Sulphur
  • Magnesium
